There are many brave and golden myths in Odisha but the freedom fighter gopabandhu das was a little different.  Also known as Pandit Gobabandhu Das. He was mainly a journalist, and for this reason, he worked for the Asha newspaper.

Later he started his own newspaper company name, samaj pandit. help the poor. He resigned from his government position because of his social work. immortal words still inspire the younger generation.
Utkalmani Gopabandhu is described as the Gandhi of Odisha for his immense contribution towards Odisha in the field of social reform, journalism and literature. His efforts to bring change in orthodox society, his role to expedite social movements, selfless service, and educational reform earned him the title ‘Utkalmani’ (Gem of Odisha). Earlier, Odisha was known as Utkal.
He had started a voluntary organization – Puri Seva Samiti – to help the cholera victims. Later, the movement led to setting up of a separate hospital for cholera patients in the district. He was born on October 9, 1877, to Swarnamay Devi and Daytari Das in the village of Kwandu near Puri, and he played a key role in making Odisha the first official linguistic state in India in 1936. His contribution to Odisha in creating a separate province will always be remembered for generations.  During his stay in Kolkata (Calcutta), he called the Vandy Mataram contingent that instilled the spirit of Swadeshi in him.  


He was the first president of the Congress Party in Odisha.  Karamchand Gandhi's engineer was brought to Odisha in 1921 to inspire people to join the non-cooperation movement.  He was imprisoned several times for the cause of the struggle for freedom.  Veteran leader Subhash has called Chandra Bose the father of the Odisha national movement. Gopabandhu lost his parents during his childhood.  


My father married from the age of twelve.  She also left the world when he was only 28 years old.  After the death of his wife and three sons, he left his daughters with his older brother and gave his share of the inheritance.  He left his home and devoted his life to serving humanity.  He was a prominent writer and poet.  His works including Kara Kapita, Chilika, Dharmapada, and Bandi Ra Atma Katha are testimony to his literary skills.  Gopapandu was a pioneer of freedom of the press in Odisha. 




National Vice President Luke Sevak Mandal.  He played an important role in Odia's press.  He published a monthly magazine 'Satyabadi' in 1914. Later, he began publishing a weekly newspaper 'The Samaj', in 1919 which was once the leading newspaper in Odisha.  He served as editor-in-chief of 'Samaj' until his last breath.He was a poet par excellence.  The idea of ​​nationalism and love for Lord Jagannath and Puri was described emotionally in his poem

“Let my body mingle with the dust of this Land, And let my countrymen walk along my back.

Let all the holes in the road of freedom be filled
with my blood and bone,
And let my life be sacrificed when my people
awake into freedom.”
And the Holy Nilachal is like pollens in one lotus,
And whenever I am in India
I am always in my room,
In my eyes, the Indian stone is holy stone,
And every place is as beloved as my Puri,
And all water is as holy as
the water of fine holy rivers,
And every holy place is my Nilachal.”
